We took our first family camping trip a few weekends ago to Jubilee College State Park in Kickapoo, IL. We decided to do just one night, to see how the kids handled it. They both had a blast, but Dakota didn't surprise us by not sleeping well. I've mentioned many times that she is an excellent sleeper (sleeps 12-13 hours a night and takes a 2-3 hour nap every afternoon), but this is only if she's in her bed, in her dark, quiet room. I think the freedom of being in the tent, not caged in her crib, threw her off completely! She was so wired that night and would not settle down. She was, literally, bouncing off the walls of the tent and climbing over all of us as though we were playground equipment. Several times she got in my face and pried my eyelids open yelling, "Open eyes Mommy!" She did fall asleep finally, but it made for a tiring evening, and then both kids woke up with the sun the next morning!
One of their favorite things was the playground just behind our campsite:

We'll camp one more time this weekend, then we're driving to Branson to meet up with Jason's family for a four night camping adventure in early June.
