Fire Prevention Week (Shout out to Uncle Austin)
It's Fire Prevention Week and the Columbus Air Force Base Fire Department have provided plenty of activities for kids and families to enjoy. Jaxon and I went to a demonstration and picnic at the fire house last week. They offered a tour of their facilities, a demonstration of putting out an airplane fire with their tanks, practice in their non-toxic smoke house for children to work on ~ Stop ~ Drop ~ and Roll, and a BBQ with the firemen and other families on base. This week there have been several activities on base, sponsored by the fire department, and Saturday we enjoyed a parade of fire trucks in front of our house.
Here we are watching a demonstration of firemen "scaling" down the side of a house. Jaxon didn't get a full nap this morning and he was very lethargic and serious. He's sporting one of his fireman outfits.

A couple of the trucks driving through the parade. They were full lights and sirens through the parade route - we could hear them coming from the other end of the base. They had their wives and children in the trucks with them throwing candy. On the top picture, you can kind of see the outer gear the firemen wear. It's shiny silver. I'm sure they explained what purpose it serves, but Jaxon and I were late for the explanation and tour and missed out on a lot of their activities.
Here's a fireman "scaling" down the side of a practice house. He compared himself to Spiderman and then he had all of the kids' attention. They were cheering and clapping, probably thinking he learned all of his tricks from Spiderman.
Here's a hollowed out airplane they use for practice. They said one unique thing about the Air Force Firemen is that they must be prepared to fight house fires as well as fires on the flight line.
