We are standing in front of a T-6. This is the first plane Jason will fly at UPT. This particular plane was from Laughlin AFB in Del Rio, TX.

The sun, the heat, the excitement of airplanes...it was all too much for Jaxon and he fell asleep before the AF Thunderbirds took to the air.


Not that we need any more proof, but God works in wonderful and mysterious ways and He has always met us right where we needed Him. While Jaxon and I were waiting for Jason, Ouma, and Oupa to finish looking at the static displays we sat under the wing of a large aircraft for some shade. I overheard the girl next to me talking about moving from Mississippi. I interrupted her and asked where she lived. Columbus AFB!! Her husband just finished 3 1/2 years as an Instructor Pilot and now he is at Whiteman flying B-2's. They had been in Kansas City just about a month. What a connection! I, of course, asked her some questions about Jason's training and the hours he'll be away. And Jason was able to make a connection with her husband and ask him questions about the training process. God is so good! It was just another reassurance the He is in control and with us every step of the way.

We went out to dinner with Jason's family the week before we left Kansas City. Cousin Rowan loves to hold the babies. Here she is "holding" Jaxon with help from her mom.

We're Here!

We've made it to Mississippi! We got here Monday afternoon and met with the landlords on base. They had a 4 bedroom house move-in ready for us. We were so excited, but after calling the movers, we learned it would be another week before they could move us in. So, we are currently living in temporary housing, which is directly across from our house. We're getting settled and familiar with Columbus and the base. We can't wait to get moved into our own home next week. Jason has had a fairly easy week. He's been given a checklist that must be complete by Sept. 9. He's enjoyed working on it at his leisure. We've enjoyed having him around during the day and eating lunch together everyday. We are planning to spend this weekend getting a little more familiar with the town and the base.

Welcome to our Blog

So, we've decided to join the world of blogging so everyone can keep up with us and our travels. We are planning to arrive in Columbus, MS on Monday, 25 August. We are so excited for this new journey, but very apprehensive as we take this leap of faith. God is so faithful and as we look back over the last 5+ years, we see His work in everything.

We started this journey toward "silver wings" (pilot's license) almost 6 years ago. Jason called me in college and said, "I have an idea." I thought he was crazy at first. I was supposed to marry a high school biology teacher, not a pilot. It took a lot of praying and research before God granted me peace with all of this. It was about 2 years, from the first time Jason presented this idea, before the first application was sent out.

Over the course of 4 summers, we sent out more than 50 applications and drove to more than a dozen interviews. Our stack of rejection letters is large, but that just shows Jason's persistence in believing in this dream God placed on his heart over 25 years ago.

It is hard to believe that UPT (Undergraduate Pilot Training) is finally here. We never doubted for a second that we wouldn't get here, but it is still very surreal to be down here.
