Jax Riding His Bike
The weather has been gorgeous lately and we've spent hours each day outside playing. Jax has had some interest in learning to ride his new bike, but that interest only lasts a few minutes. So, this weekend I decided to take him off the driveway and have him ride in our cult-da-sac. That seemed to be the answer to his previous stumbling block! I think he was holding back some in the driveway because it was too small a space. Once he got on the street, he took off!

Ice Cream Cones and Ponytails
The kids and I had dinner and custard last night at Culver's. It's always nice to get out of the house for one meal while Jason is on a trip. For 1.) there's no arguing about what's for dinner because they both have one item on every menu in town that they eat and 2.) I don't have to hear any complaints or "I don't like this" about what I cooked for dinner
Jaxon saw an older gentleman eating an ice cream cone and he thought he might like that too. I honestly could not think of a time that he's eaten ice cream from a cone! So, after pushing aside the guilt for depriving him of this messy adventure for the last four years, I agreed to his order.
It was all over his face and I loved every minute of it. He usually cannot stand to have anything on his hands or face, but for some reason he seemed to have no idea that he had a full mustache and goatee of chocolate.
His first taste after the Culver's girl handed him his ice cream. She would go on to hand Dakota her bowl of vanilla custard as I am snapping this picture and you are right if you guessed that that sounded like a disaster waiting to happen.
Dakota's hair continues to grow and I don't foresee cutting it anytime soon. It's still growing evenly and it's just as silky and soft as ever. It has been a lot of fun experimenting with different styles and even sponge rolling a few times, but this week I got it in a full pony! It's just the simple things in life that make my day.
Oh how I love that face.
A side view of the cutest ponytail I've ever seen. By the time I was done with her pony, she was no longer interested in standing still for a bow, but we'll keep working on her.
Front view - She still has new hair growing in, so I can't pull all of her hair back without pinning some of the front hair back separately.
Now if I can just get her to sit still long enough for a French braid!

Daddy's Visitors at Work
Jason has been working really long days ever since finishing up his rest period following the deployment. We are very grateful for the steady work, but we sure miss him during the day! The kids and I decided to go to Daddy's work one day then take him to lunch (ok so he treated us to lunch, but same thing) at Tyroni's. After lunch, we went outside to see if any Herk's were open for the kids to play in, I mean tour.
And there just happened to be a giant re-fueler on base that day loading some grain to take over to Afghanistan. While it was being loaded, the flight crew invited us up in to the cockpit to snoop around. Jaxon was in heaven and is still telling stories of our special day at Daddy's work.

Jaxon, Daddy and Mommy at the Riverman Game
Our sweet babysitter, Brittany, came over to play with Dakota so Jason and I could take Jaxon to the Peoria Rivermen hockey game. It was a really fun night with just our sweet Jaxon. We went out to dinner, he chose Culver's of course, then headed to Peoria for the game. The Rivermen ended up losing, but we had a great time!
We bought a booster seat the other day because I was watching a friend's kid for a few hours. Jaxon was thrilled to be a big boy in the booster. He is begging to use it on a regular basis, but we keep explaining to him that he is still quite a ways from the required 40 lb. minimum. We've decided to keep the booster in Jason's car for now and on special occasions (with short distances), such as a special night out with mom and dad, we'll take Dad's car so he can use the booster. He has his 4 year old well visit on Tuesday, so we're curious to see how much weight he's gained. His face in this picture says it all: I'm so excited to be in my booster and have a night with mom and dad all to myself!

First Visit to the Dentist
Jaxon had his first visit to the dentist last week. He was such a brave boy. He hopped right into the big chair and opened his mouth super wide (almost) the whole time we were there. They had to tell him several times that he could relax for a little bit, they didn't need in his mouth for another few minutes. He got his teeth cleaned with chocolate toothpaste and marshmallow flavored fluoride. We're so proud of him!
